Lower Aire Valley / St Aidan's

Our plans for the regeneration of this area focussed on providing outdoor recreation and contact with nature.

The RSPB is working with Leeds City Council, the Environment Agency, UK Coal and others to create new wildlife sites along the Lower Aire Valley. We wrote the Interpretation Strategy and Access Appraisal for the whole valley and an Interpretation Plan for St. Aidan's.

St Aidan's, once the largest open cast coalmine in England, is set to become a major accessible wetland nature reserve. Robust, vandal-resistant solutions, including the use of portable audio, were required here.
