Interpret Europe conference 2015
This was, quite possibly the best conference we have ever been to. Interpret Europe http://www.interpret-europe.net conferences are always very good. They have become an annual event for us, an important way to build and strengthen our network of contacts across the continent.
An appropriate theme for a conference that began with a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.More than 120 lively, thoughtful and committed heritage communicators came to Krakow to share ideas and reflections on and approaches to ‘Sensitive heritage – sensitive interpretation’.
Peter gave a popular talk on temporary interpretation as a sensitive solution at wildlife and natural heritage sites incorporating numerous case studies from our experience and from our clients’. Participants appreciated the practical ‘how to’ nature of his advice.
Susan’s workshop on ‘Can interpreting stories of conflict be an obstacle to building peace?’ was an opportunity for deep reflection on interpreters’ responsibilities in dealing with sensitive heritage.
Written version of both sessions will appear in the Conference Proceedings on the Interpret Europe website (in due course).
