Some of my very best moments are when the words stop.
I am a word nerd. I sometimes feels my whole brain reverberates, resonates with the sound and feel of words. Spoken words, written words, read words, heard words. My work is words. My thoughts are words. My dreams are often words.
Some of my very best moments are when the words stop. When something takes me beyond the chatter.
Usually that happens when I am alone, in nature, in wild places.
Today it happened in an exceptional exhibition.
OUT OF THE MARVELLOUS is based on selected pairings of poets and makers. Poems and artworks. A weaver of words paired and a weaver of willow, a potter and a poet.
Beautiful artworks becoming greater. Deep, resonant, illuminating relationships.
Curation and display as an art, a creation of beauty and meaning in itself.
Consummate skill.
Poems are as far beyond words as bone, peat, clay and willow.
I have things to say about this exhibition. There will be (at least) another blog. Soon. For now, just look. Let’s leave the analysis, the words, for later.
OUT OF THE MARVELLOUS is a co-production between the National Craft Gallery, Poetry Ireland and Solstice Art Centre. It is in Kilkenny until 16 January and at the Solstice Art Gallery, Navan from 9 February until 6 April.
Go see it.
