The challenge

WWT LWT 53 2

Visitor research including satisfaction surveys had shown that visitors to WWT centres liked talking to staff and particularly volunteers. However some of the walks and talks offered were not popular.

Our response

We developed a new system of four distinct walks and talks.

These incorporated new visitor insights and WWT’s branding guidelines.

Trialling at WWT Slimbridge

This was a profound shift in approach. We worked closely with staff and volunteers at WWT Slimbridge to introduce the change and understand their concerns. We provided bespoke training in the skills required for the different types of presentation.

We monitored the reactions to the new style walks and talks from staff and the public.

The work at Slimbridge demonstrated the value of the approach which will be applied at all WWT centres. The experience of the Slimbridge pilot, including some of the training monitoring tools we developed will be used across the centres.
